What Makes Western Different than Other Green Bay Gyms
You’ve got options when it comes to gyms in Green Bay, so when you’re looking for your newest fitness spot, why choose Western Racquet & Fitness Club?
For starters, we’ve been part of this community for over 50 years and have remained family-owned. That means fitness isn’t just business for us—it’s personal. We’ve seen generations of members come through our doors, and our goal has always been the same: to help people feel their best, inside and out.
We like to think that Western isn’t just another place to work out. We’re a place to feel good. We look at wellness as more than just breaking a sweat. It’s about how you move, fuel, recover, and connect. That’s why you’ll find everything from group fitness and personal training to nutrition support, recovery services, and even racquet sports. And when you’re done? Hit the sauna, grab a smoothie, or just hang out for a bit.
We’ve built Western to be the kind of place where fitness feels like part of your life, not just something on your to-do list.
So what can you expect to find at Western that sets us apart from other gyms in the Green Bay area? Keep reading to learn about our programs, amenities, and hot takes from our staff on what makes Western special.

Personal Training
Looking for a little extra guidance or accountability? Our personal trainers are here to help you reach your goals and make sure you enjoy the process. Every training session at Western is customized to you. No cookie-cutter workouts, no guesswork, just real results and plenty of genuine connection along the way. You can work one-on-one or train in small groups if you prefer a team vibe. Plus, members get two complimentary sessions per year, ideal for asking questions, familiarizing themselves with the equipment, and learning how to move closer to their goals.
As one of our members put it: “They truly care about my goals and don’t overcomplicate the process.” Another added, “We laugh as hard as we work out.” We think that says it all.

Pickleball
Pickleball lovers, we’ve got you, too. Play year-round on 10 indoor courts at our Four Seasons facility. Choose from unlimited memberships, punch cards, drop-ins, or permanent court time. Whether you’re here for fun or fierce competition, you’ll find your perfect match.
Nutrition Services
At Western, we know that what you eat is just as important as how you move. Our registered dietitian/nutritionists (RD/N) offer personalized nutrition coaching based on Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size principles—no diets, no gimmicks, just science-backed guidance that fits your life.
Whether your goal is to boost performance, improve your overall well-being, or simply make peace with food, we’ll help you find an approach that truly works for you. As one happy member put it:
“This is no cookie-cutter program. It’s tailored to each individual. Take it from me, this program is the bomb! Please, check it out. Believe me, you will not regret it!”
Western amenities
We’re all about those little (and not-so-little) things that make your fitness routine easier, more enjoyable, and more relaxing. Check out our amenities and member perks.
Member Perks & Rewards
We think feeling good should come with a few bonuses. Western members can rack up points in our Rewards Program just for doing what you already do—checking in, referring friends, even having a birthday! You can redeem points for services, products, and more.
And speaking of perks, membership also includes monthly access to cryotherapy, red light therapy, Normatec compression, and Hyperice percussion therapy. Because recovery is part of the journey, not an afterthought.
Complimentary Towel Service
Towel service might not be at the top of your “must-have” list when you’re checking out gyms. But once you’ve experienced it, there’s no going back. Most gyms make you bring your own, which means if you forget it after that lunchtime workout…well, enjoy that slightly sweaty return to the office.
At Western, we’ve got you covered, literally. Grab a fresh towel when you walk in, another after your shower, and head out feeling refreshed. It’s one less thing to remember in your gym bag!
Whirlpool, Steam Room & Sauna
Need a little recovery or just some “me” time? Slip into our secluded whirlpool or unwind in the steam room or sauna, available in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms.
Beyond the bliss factor, these amenities come with some serious wellness perks: improved circulation, boosted immunity, pain relief, better skin, and faster muscle recovery. Plus, in Green Bay, the sauna becomes your personal slice of tropical paradise during winter.
Refuel Smoothie Bar
Post-workout hunger? We’ve got the cure. Swing by the Refuel Smoothie Bar for smoothies, refreshers, snacks, wellness shots, and grab-n-go items approved by our dietitians. Refuel after a tough workout or grab something quick on your way out!
Wellbeing Workshops
Health is a lifelong learning process, and we’re here to make it fun and approachable. Our monthly Wellbeing Workshops cover everything from healthy cooking and seasonal eating to goal-setting and self-care. Workshops are free for members, and they’re a great way to learn something new, meet like-minded people, and stay inspired on your wellness journey.
Holistically Modern Book Club
Looking for connection beyond the gym floor? Join our Holistically Modern Book Club, a women’s wellness book club that dives into topics around mind, body, and spirit. Led by Group Ex Director & Personal Trainer Ally DeWolfe and Renew Director & Energy Healer Ana Kat, this is your space for meaningful conversation, holistic inspiration, and genuine connection.
What makes Western special according to the Western team
After more than 50 years in Green Bay, Western has built a thriving community, and no one knows that better than the people who make it all happen every day. From trainers and instructors to nutrition experts and front desk staff, everyone here plays a part in creating the welcoming, encouraging atmosphere Western is known for.
So, what do they think makes Western so special? We asked a few of our team members to share what they love most about this place.
“Western is built around people, not numbers. It’s been around for decades, not just as a business, but as a pillar of the community. There’s a sense of pride in doing things the right way and with intention. Not chasing trends, but setting the standard. We meet you where you’re at and we honor that. We want everyone to feel supported, understood, and cared for.” - Katie Kane, Special Projects & Program Director
“What makes Western different is that we’re so much more than a gym.....we’re a lifestyle, a one-stop shop for complete wellness. Everything under our roof, from group fitness and personal training to Renew recovery services, nutrition coaching, the smoothie bar, tennis, and pickleball, works together to support whole-person health. Most of all, our community is unmatched. Members and staff genuinely know and care about each other, making Western feel like a second home, not just a place to work out.” - Amanda Boeder, Director of Membership Sales & Corporate Wellness
“What makes Western different is the people. It's family-owned, welcoming, and full of staff who genuinely care. There's no corporate pressure, no feeling like a number - just real support for every step of your health and fitness journey. - Zach Barfknecht, Personal Trainer
“Western is where mornings start with real hellos. A space for movement, integrated health, and mindset shifts that hold. Most stay because they feel seen, because this is a place you can always come back to.” - Ana Kat, Renew Director
“Hands down, what makes Western different for me is the presence of Rock Steady Boxing. Over 50 people living with Parkinson's at all stages and all ages venture through our doors 3 times a week and find comfort and community in all that they tackle on a daily basis. They are welcomed from the minute they walk through the doors by staff and members. They have a huge fan club and team in their corner at Western Racquet, and that makes me beam with pride.” - Kari Merrill, Programs Director
“We have something for literally everyone! If you are starting on a new goal, we can help inspire with trainers, instructors, and friendly staff and members. If you are looking to recover-we can help with Renew, breathwork, and personal training. If you are looking for a more internal stance, we’ve got nutrition, energy work, and recovery services. If you just need to come and be social, we are a friendly, happy place to be. The members and staff genuinely notice and care about others. Small enough to feel like family but big enough for a variety of wellness possibilities.” - Stephanie Nelson, Registered Dietitian
“I was a member at Western long before I started working here. I quickly learned that Western is more than a gym where you walk in, put your headphones on, and hop on a piece of equipment. It became my home away from home, where I made lifelong friendships. It's social groups on the tennis courts, it's sitting in the cafe catching up on life, it's the front desk staff that knows you by your first name. It's like Cheers, "where everyone knows your name"! Now that I work here, I get to experience this happiness and positivity on a daily basis. When I tell people about my job and where I work, I say it with such a smile on my face that it's easy to see that Western truly is the best!” - Staci Hayes, Director of Membership Outread, Pickleball & Adult Tennis Coordinator
“First and foremost, Western isn’t a gym. It’s a comprehensive wellness destination that empowers members to move, recover, and thrive: physically, mentally, and socially. Our facility brings together industry-leading offerings, from racquet sports and personal training to group fitness, recovery, and nutrition services. More than anything, Western is a community with a place for everyone, at every stage of their wellness journey.” - Stuard Nett, Director of Racquet Sports & Development
“It's always been the people here that make this place what it is. Great staff, great members and great community.” - Andy Gaustad, Personal Trainer
“We’re a family-owned and operated fitness community built on care, connection, and real results. Every member matters to us. We take pride in offering a high level of personal attention, focusing on the details that make your fitness journey truly effective and enjoyable. Our team is made up of real people who care about helping you achieve your goals, not just selling memberships.” - Alex Awve, Director of Personal Training
